HEALTH INITIATIVE

MISSION & HISTORY.

First Ladies Health Initiative (FLHI) represent total congregations of 1.5 million people which are ethnically diverse and cross-denominational.

We partner with over 900 healthcare providers, volunteers, and public & private health-related organizations.

African Americans and Latinos suffer from a higher prevalence of preventable, systemic illnesses - such as hepatitis, diabetes, obesity, and certain forms of cancer.

African Americans account for an estimated 44% of all new HIV infections  among adults and adolescents. The mission of the First Ladies Health Initiative is to host screening programs where African Americans can prevent and treat major health issues.

The First Ladies Health Initiative (FLHI) is held annually in 5 major metropolitan areas: Chicago, Gary, IN, Los Angeles, Orange County, CA and Cincinnati, OH.

The program begins with an annual luncheon attended by nearly 200 pastors’ wives, who hear information from medical professionals on how to educate their communities about various illnesses.

The program culminates annually with the First Ladies Health Day, the largest health day of its kind in the nation.
